URL FORWARDING

URL forwarding is the redirection of a domain name or a page in a domain name to another domain name or a page in another domain name. For example, you can redirect the domain name domain.com to test1.com. In this way, when you want to log in to the domain name domain.com, the site belonging to test1.com will open.

URL checks are performed for the subdomain part, the service selection part and the domain name to be forwarded. The simplest requirements are as follows:

  • Each tag must be between 1-63 characters. subdomain=63 + domain name=63 characters. If there is no subdomain, only the domain can be registered as 63 characters.
  • Alphanumeric characters can be used (Example: 0-9A-Z)
  • Phrases can begin and end with a number.
  • – (hyphen) can be used, cannot start with -, cannot end with -.
  • Characters other than – (period) and – (hyphen) cannot be used.
  • A URL can only be redirected once.
  • You cannot redirect abc.com -> test1.com while redirecting abc.com -> test2.com. It gives the warning “This URL has been redirected before” and does not make any record.

In order to redirect the URL www.alanadım.com, you need to create a new record in addition to the URL redirect record you have already created. In order to create the relevant record, after pressing the URL Redirection button next to your domain name, you can create your URL record in the same way after typing “www” in the Subdomain Name blank in the From THIS URL section.

301 forwarding is a permanent URL redirection. For example, a 301 redirect works if you are moving from one URL to another, merging two sites, or making changes to the URL that are not intended to be undone. It is recommended for SEO.
302 forwarding stands for temporary redirection. The forwarding you have made is considered a temporary change and is not registered.

Redirection in this way cannot be done yet, but it is planned to provide support in this area when hosting service is started. Even if your URL redirect is defined, you may not be able to confirm that the service is working due to previous queries you have made through the browser you are using, because it will take a certain period of time for your browser to update its data. During this period, you can clear your browser history and cookies, make a query through an incognito tab or on a different device to confirm the transaction.
When the service period expires, the forwarding service between your domain names will not continue.
METUnic provides “URL Forwarding” service free of charge.
If there is no A record, the forwarding can be used after the DNS record is added and this record is updated. Old and high TTL records registered in the domain name may cause the update time to be longer.
